The TechCrunch Podcast Network

Found

Found is a show about founders, and company-building, featuring people actually doing the work. Each week, we interview one early stage startup founder about how they took the plunge to begin with, and how they navigate everything from building product roadmaps, to raising funding from some of the world’s top investors – and to how they manage failure, too.

Process + Tools

  • I vet and book all guests for the show. With an interview show, we have the luxury of booking out weeks or months ahead of time. We host recordings on Zoom and I have each participant get a local recording as well. I’ve become a pro at virtually identifying and fixing technical issues and getting guests as comfortable as possible on mic.

  • When I first joined the team I started out by just scheduling and editing each episode. I edit in Adobe Audition. Now I coordinate with our very talented editor by providing notes from the episode to guide the direction.

  • Once I’ve quality checked an episode, I write the description and get it ready to post. We host our podcasts on Simplecast.

  • Additionally, I run the Found Twitter and coordinate with the TechCrunch marketing and sales team to promote each episode.

The TechCrunch Podcast

The TechCrunch Podcast is where you’ll hear everything you need to know about the week’s top stories in tech from the people who wrote them. Each week I work with the host to select the two most interesting stories from TechCrunch.com and schedule interviews with the writers. We then script a news section to cover the additional top stories.

Process + Tools

  • We record with two different TechCrunch writers each week using Zoom. I strive to guide reporting on how to translate their articles to an interesting podcast inerview.

  • Each week I edit one of the two 15-minute interviews using Adobe Audition. Then I coordinate with our editor who handles the other interview, news section and mixing.

  • We host the podcast on Simplcast. I publish the episodes after writing the description, including relevant tags, and coming up with a quippy title—focusing on SEO best practices.

  • Once the episode is live, I coordinate with the social media team and host to get an article written and shared on the TechCrunch Twitter,

Inside Startup Battlefield

Startup competitions are a mainstay in Silicon Valley and there probably isn’t a VC or founder out there who hasn’t heard of TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield. From the TechCrunch Podcast Network comes Inside Startup Battlefield — a four-episode miniseries that takes you behind the scenes of one of tech’s most anticipated startup competitions. Each episode is a deep dive into a different part of the competition from the company selection process to crafting a standout pitch to getting to know the winner

Process + Tools

  • While onsite at TechCrunch Disrupt 2022, I interviewed each of the top 20 startup founders, TechCrunch staffers, audience members, and competition judges. Plus I captured b-roll to create a sonic scene in the final podcast.

  • Each night I then logged the audio and began to outline what each episode would be, letting the content inform the narrative. Once the event was over, my co-producer and I went through each interview and chose selects.

  • From there I outlined each of the four episodes and scripted the narration.

  • Then we down into the edit, each taking on two episodes.

  • Simultaneously, I wrote titles and descriptions for each one and coordinated with the marketing and sales team to ensure the show was properly promoted.

  • When each episode was completed, I listened for quality and posted them using Simplecast across all the TechCrunch Podcast Network podcast feeds.
