Summit 2020

In 2019, BUILT BY GIRLS created a unique conference experience for GenZ women and non-binary students looking for help with their first step into a career. However, 2020 called for a distinctly unique approach. COVID-19 has forced everyone to take events like the BUILT BY GIRLS Summit online.

It was crucial for us to maintain the energy and deliver the same high-quality content in a digital space. The collection of live-streamed talks and workshops led by the industry’s most brilliant minds and fearless leaders. Was every student’s chance to get ready for the comeback by gaining the financial, professional, and educational guidance they need to re-enter the world and take it by storm.

The Problem

We needed to take an energetic, interactive in-person event online. Plus the events team was whittled down to just two people.

The Solution

Collaborate cross-functionally across Verizon Media to find a platform that allowed for audience interaction, secure talent, create custom branding, outline content, market, and more.

Responsibilities

Create boilerplate with both internal and user-facing language that will drive the voice of the event
Assist brand lead to establish the visual identity of the event
Work with Verizon Media bookings team to secure talent like Soledad O’Brien and Amanda Seales
Work with Verizon Media journalists to shape meaningful conversation with the talent
Execute marketing plan using various channels (email marketing, social media, community outreach, etc)
Act as assistant producer on day-of and also appear on screen for an introduction and sign off
Oversee and approve edits of the recorded footage of the segments
Create a toolkit to share the talks in full and other relevant resources
